Fat Wood Plate Lamp / 肥松板の照明 - 嵌合接合による構造体の美しさ -
ヤニ/樹脂を多く含んだ肥松を用いた照明を制作した。
肥松は樹齢数百年を超える樹脂を多く含んだ松から採取できる貴重な材である。
長い年月をかけ蓄積された松の脂は、光を捉えると赤い色を放つ。
この独特な色こそ肥松の樹脂の色である。
釘や糊を使わない日本独自の組物の技術を用いて、肥松板の積層による照明をつくる。
立体的な嵌合接合による構造体をつくり、さらに光を纏い、その構造体が美しく輝きだす。
さらに、肥松板の積層によって、大きさやパターンが変化すると共に、
その機能も、ペンダントランプ、テーブルランプ、フロアランプと変化する。
様々な空間で肥松板の照明が赤く妖艶に光り出す。
樹脂が多く、使用方法やメンテナンスに困り、昔から毛嫌いされてきた松ヤニを
様々な加工技術によって、美しい素材に変えて、先進的なデザインに昇華する。
We created a lamp using fat wood, which is rich in resin.
The fat wood is a precious material that can be extracted from pines, which is rich in resin that are over hundreds of years old. The resin, which has accumulated over many years, changes a red color when it catches light, unlike the resin of other trees.
When the fat wood catches the light, Fat Wood shines a bewitching red.
We created a Lamp using laminated thick pine plates, applying traditional Japanese joinery techniques that do not use nails or glue.
This technology creates beautiful structures with three-dimensional interlocking joints.
The structure is enveloped in light and begins to shine beautifully.
Furthermore, as the thick pine plates are layered, the size and pattern change, and the function also changes.

In various spaces, Fat Wood Plate Lamp glows a bewitching red in the light.
The resin of pine, which has long been disliked because it is high in resin and difficult to use and maintain, has been transformed into a beautiful material through various processing techniques and changed it to an advanced design.

Resin canals are tubular intercellular spaces into which resin is secreted to protect against invading foreign organisms.
釘や糊を使わない日本独自の組物の技術 / Japanese Special Joint
日本で古来から用いられてきた、木材どおしを釘や糊を使わず嵌め合わせる技術( 嵌合接合 )がある。
また組子でも使われる互いの板を相欠きとし、木材板どおしを嵌め合わせることで粘り強い構造をつくる。
これら組物の技術をつかい、肥松板を用いた照明をデザインする。
A technique that has been used in Japan since ancient times, fitting pieces of wood together without using nails or glue.
It is also used in kumiko, where two boards are cut apart and fitted together to create a strong structure.
Using these kumiko techniques, we have designed a lamp using thick pine plates.

立体的な嵌合接合による構造体の美しさ / Beautiful Structure
肥松板を嵌合接合により立体的に積層することで美しい構造体をつくる。
嵌め合わせ方によって、様々なパターンをもった構造体をつくることができ、デザインは無限大である。
井桁状に立体的に嵌め合わせ、肥松板のはね出しと凹凸を組合せて複雑なパターンをつくる。
Beautiful structures are created by stacking thick pine plates in a three-dimensional interlocking joints.
Depending on how the plates are interlocked, structures with a variety of patterns can be created, and the design possibilities are endless.
The plates are interlocked in a three-dimensional crisscross pattern, and the protruding and uneven surfaces of the thick pine plates are combined to create complex patterns.

光と影を纏った構造体の美しさ / Beautiful Structure with light & Shadow
肥松板のはね出しと凹凸によってうまれた隙間から光が漏れ出し構造体を照らす。
構造体に美しい陰翳のパターンをつくり、肥松板の照明が様々な空間で妖艶に輝き出す。
Light leaks through the gaps created by the protruding and uneven pine plates, illuminating the structure.
Beautiful light & shadow patterns are created on the structure, and Fat Wood Plate Lamp glows a bewitching red in the light.

拡張性/ Expandability
肥松板の増減によって、ペンダントランプからテーブルランプ、そしてフロアランプに変化する。
1960年代に提唱された 「 メタボリズム / 新陳代謝 」では、建物や都市を” 完成した形 “と考えず、生物のように成長・変化・更新し続けるものと捉えた。
家具スケールにおいても組合せ方によって、機能や大きさが変化する拡張性をもったデザインを提案する。
By adding or removing thick pine plates, the lamp can change from a pendant lamp to a table lamp and then to a floor lamp.
Metabolism, proposed in the 1960s, did not view buildings and cities as " finished forms ", but rather as living things that continue to grow, change, and be renewed.
Similarly, on a furniture scale, we propose a design with expandability that allows functions and sizes to change depending on how it is combined.

自らの手でつくる / Handmade
肥松板を組合せるだけで、釘や糊を使わない為、自らの手で容易にデザインの変更が可能である。
子供たちが木組みのおもちゃで遊ぶように自らの手で組み立てて作品をつくる。
By combining thick pine plates without using nails or glue, you can easily change the design yourself.
Just as children play with wooden toys, we can assemble and create works with our own hands.
木目の美しさ / Wood Grain
肥松板は、柾目とし、反りやゆがみを防ぐと共に、木目の方向性を強調したデザインとした。
柾目は、木目に沿って樹脂が流れている為、光を捉えると、木目と樹脂の流れるような模様が浮び上がる。
The thick pine plates are straight-grain to prevent warping and distortion, and the design emphasizes the direction of the wood grain.
In straight grain wood, the resin flows along the grain, so when it catches the light, the flowing patterns of the wood grain and resin emerge.
経年変化による美しさ / Aging
肥松は経年変化により表層が飴色に変化することで、光を捉えると、より深い赤で光り出す。
As the resin ages, it permeates the entire grain of the wood, and the surface changes to a beautiful amber color, lighting up with a deeper red.
